The Los Angeles City Council has put off further consideration of the city’s medical marijuana ordinance until next Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports here.
Council members were scheduled to approve the ordinance at today’s meeting, but they expressed concerns that its ban on dispensaries within 1,000 feet of homes was too restrictive. They said they wanted to examine maps being prepared by the Planning Department that would show where up to 137 dispensaries could operate legally. (The ordinance actually caps the total at 70, but will permit the 137 dispensaries registered with the city to continue operations.)
“Let’s do it the right way,” Council President Eric Garcetti was quoted as saying in the Times article.
