When marijuana growers suggested ordinances Yuba County could use to regulate medical marijuana, and anti-pot Supervisor Andy Vasquez said he appreciated the input on an issue here to stay, it could be taken as a sign of progress in the Yuba-Sutter area’s weed wars. With supervisors holding a workshop Tuesday to discuss a possible medical marijuana ordinance, the prevailing theory among both the board and more than a dozen speakers seemed to be: Mend it, don’t end it. “We want to work with you. We want to get an ordinance drafted,” said Eric Salerno, spokesman [...]

Operators of a temporarily closed marijuana dispensary should pay Marysville $68,000 in penalties and be prevented from reopening without a business permit, according to the city. The recent motion filed in Yuba County Superior Court seeks a summary judgment in a lawsuit against NorCal Health and Wellness Collective, which ran a medical marijuana dispensary at 825 9th Street for much of 2010. City Council members and officials met in closed session Tuesday to discuss the suit, which is scheduled to be heard in court Sept. 26, Nancy Pasternack reports in the Appeal-Democrat. At the heart [...]

Marysville police raided a medical marijuana dispensary Wednesday afternoon after a previous cease-and-desist order failed to prevent the operators from continuing to do business. No one had been arrested an hour after officers entered the building at 825 Ninth St., across from the Yuba County Government Center. Armed with a search warrant signed by Yuba County Judge Dennis Buckley — the second in three months — officers confiscated what Police Chief Wally Fullerton said was a “large amount of marijuana” from Norcal Health and Wellness Collective. They also took computers that may contain records of [...]

Prompted by roughly 35 medical marijuana advocates — including one who used the public comment period to play a Native American tune on a flute made of bone — the Marysville City Council voted 3-1 Tuesday night to change future meetings so public comment will be near the end, rather than at the beginning. Tuesday’s public comment was allowed at the beginning and the end of the meeting as a one-time measure to accommodate the agenda and the crowd. Mayor Bill Harris voted against the proposed change, the Appeal-Democrat reports. Councilman Ben Wirtschafter was absent. [...]

He runs a small pediatrics practice in Marysville and has been busy lately with back-to-school checkups and vaccinations. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ndulue said when he received a lawsuit two weeks ago from the city attorney with his name on it, “I couldn’t believe it.” The suit, filed with the Yuba County Superior Court on behalf of Marysville, names Ndulue in connection with Norcal Health and Wellness Collective — a medical marijuana dispensary — which opened on I Street late last year. It also names Carothers Investments of Roseville, Sonoma National Bank and Alliance National Trustee. All [...]

A vocal standing-room-only crowd at Marysville City Hall gave the public comment microphone a rare workout Tuesday night, as one by one, area residents supported a medical marijuana dispensary that has been operating in the city since late 2009. The comments varied from polite pleas that the city drop its lawsuit against Norcal Health and Wellness Collective and allow the facility to continue operating, to passionate accusations of corruption among law enforcement and the Marysville City Council. “Please allow Norcal to remain open,” said one. “And as an afterthought, could somebody please drain Ellis Lake?” [...]
