SHASTA LAKE — The planning commission will take public input Thursday on proposed changes to the city’s rules on medical marijuana dispensaries. Shasta Lake is the only place in Shasta County where dispensaries can legally operate. Anderson, Redding and the unincorporated county all have banned dispensaries, Sean Longoria reports in the Record Searchlight. Commissioners will decide whether to recommend to the City Council that Shasta Lake remove its permitting system for dispensaries while keeping zoning regulations in place for the businesses. “We are looking at our ordinance and taking out all of the requirements for [...]
SHASTA LAKE — The City Council voted Tuesday night to let this city’s two medical-marijuana collectives remain in business and to revise the city zoning code to comply with a recent California Court of Appeal ruling that has put collectives’ local permits in legal jeopardy statewide. City Councilwoman Dolores Lucero had asked the council to consider closing down the 530 Collective and the Queen of Dragons under an urgency ordinance, similar to the one the Redding City Council passed in mid-November, the Record Searchlight reports. Instead, after hearing from about two dozen medical-marijuana patients and [...]
The men accused of trying to steal processed marijuana from a Shasta Lake man last month apparently hoped he would believe they were law enforcement officers conducting a pot raid at his home, a Shasta County sheriff’s report says. In what sounds almost like a SWAT-style operation, three of the men, clad in tactical-style clothing and carrying weapons, approached Michael Wayne High’s Mason Drive home on the night of Aug. 29 and began to yell “search warrant, get on the ground,” according to the sheriff’s report. But High wasn’t buying any of it and fought [...]
Three men accused of trying to steal marijuana from a Shasta Lake man have been arrested in connection with a Monday night shooting at a Lake Boulevard residence in Shasta Lake. Deputies are also looking for a fourth suspect, Jim Schultz reports in the Record Searchlight. Deputies announced this afternoon that they have arrested Michael Casey Houchins, 27, of Cottonwood, Lucas Eugene Simpson, 31, of Red Bluff and Michael Derek Johnson, also 31, of Red Bluff. In addition, deputies continue to search for Chane Christian Finch, 37, of Redding, who they consider to be armed [...]
After almost a year of development, the Shasta Lake City Council this week established regulations for growing medical marijuana. Councilors voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a first reading of the ordinance, Sean Longoria reports in the Redding Record Searchlight. Councilwoman Dolores Lucero dissented. A second reading is set for the Dec. 21 council meeting, said Carla L. Thompson, the city’s development services director. The ordinance, which has been revised a number of times and has been the focus of several public hearings, has been in the development stage since Jan. 19 when the City Council [...]
SHASTA LAKE — A plan that would establish strict guidelines for cultivation of medical marijuana within city limits may be adopted Thursday by the Shasta Lake Planning Commission. Although the marijuana cultivation rules are still a work in progress and could be modified by commissioners, as well as the City Council, outdoor marijuana gardens would be allowed under the latest version of the plan. An earlier draft prohibited outdoor cultivation of medical pot, Jim Schultz reports in the Redding Record Searchlight. The updated version would allow those living on a parcel less than a half-acre [...]
SHASTA LAKE – Outdoor medical marijuana gardens would not be allowed within city limits under a draft ordinance to be reviewed tonight by the Shasta Lake Planning Commission. This will be the first time that commissioners have reviewed the draft ordinance, which is not up for approval at the meeting, the Redding Record-Searchlight’s Jim Schultz reports. Instead, commissioners will get a chance to discuss the draft ordinance and possibly order alternatives or modifications. A public hearing will be held on the ordinance at a later date. It would be at that time that commissioners would [...]
